Besides new luxury homes from acclaimed builders, resort-quality amenities and convenient I-10 access, Cane Island residents receive a challenging, yet well-rounded education at Katy ISD’s Bryant Elementary and at longtime Katy ISD schools Katy Junior High and Katy High School, all just minutes from the community.

At Bryant Elementary, an unwavering belief in the unique abilities of every child is embedded in every classroom, from those with the youngest of pre-kindergarten children to fifth-graders approaching their formative junior high years.  More than namesakes, Robert and Felice Bryant are often at the school reading to children, participating in collaborative learning activities and sharing their decades of experience with teachers and administrators.

Katy Junior High is Katy’s junior high school.  This is where teachers uphold a level of excellence in education backed by a partnership of school, parents and community.  It’s where students are first immersed in the spirit of being a Katy Tiger and forge bonds that will last through high school and beyond.

At Katy High School, the storied tradition of Katy ISD’s first high school is deep-rooted throughout the campus, from the main entry to classrooms and labs where students embrace a well-rounded education, including Advanced Placement coursework, dedicated to the study of languages, mathematics, fine arts and humanities.

As for new homes, Cane Island features move-in ready homes, starting in the $270s, with gourmet island kitchens, open entertaining spaces, spectacular master suites, game rooms and media rooms, spacious secondary bedrooms and outdoor entertaining spaces.

At Cane Quarter, residents enjoy a yoga studio with on-demand classes, two-story fitness center, lap pool, lagoon-style family pool and cabanas, children’s water playground and central lawn, fireplace loft and The Oaks Kitchen & Bar, open daily for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.

  • 27th Annual Katy Triathlon Returns to Cane Island

    October 30, 2019

The Katy Triathlon, now in its 27th year, will return to the Katy community of Cane Island on Sunday, November 3 when participants once again can compete in a traditional triathlon, a three-stage duathlon or a two-stage aquabike with proceeds benefiting scholarships for deserving Katy ISD seniors.

The Katy Triathlon is the oldest triathlon in the greater Katy/Houston area, as well as the only triathlon that is a non-profit event.

Last year marked the introduction of the duathlon (one-mile run followed by a 15-mile bike ride and three-mile run) and the aquabike (500-meter swim followed by a 15-mile bike ride) and by all accounts, the new events were very well received.

“Our race participants jumped by more than 50 percent,” says race chair Paul Kurt, noting an increase from 360 participants in 2017 to 555 in 2018.  “The new events provide an opportunity for those who may not be ready for a triathlon to compete in shorter and different two-sport races.”

The triathlon covers a 500-meter open water swim, 15-mile bike ride and three-mile run.

In anticipation of even larger crowds, Kurt says convenient offsite parking will be available at the southwest corner of Highway 90 and Cane Island Parkway.  Complimentary shuttle service will be provided from the parking area to the event site.

A pre-race party and pasta dinner will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 4-7 p.m. in Cane Island’s Cane Quarter, 2100 Cane Island Parkway.  Admission is free for race participants.  Guests are $10 per person.   Race packets also can be picked up that same day from noon – 7 p.m. in the Cane Quarter fireplace loft.

Also new this year is a kid’s triathlon on Sunday, October 20 at the Mark A. Chapman YMCA, 1350 Main Street.  Children ages 5 – 11 can participate in a swim, bike and run according to age category.

For information and to register for this year’s Katy Triathlon/Duathlon/Aquabike events and the new kid’s triathlon, go to www.katytriathlon.com.

Proceeds from registration fees for the 2019 Katy Triathlon/Duathlon/Aquabike will benefit need-based and character scholarships for graduating Katy ISD seniors.  Since its inception, the event has funded more than one half million dollars for scholarships. The event is committed to “Changing a Life for our next Generation.”
