Sales in Katy’s Cane Island are up an impressive 38 percent through the end of August as west Houston families flock to the community for new homes offering gourmet kitchens, spacious living areas, flexible home office settings and modern features.

“The community has experienced year-over-year growth since it opened in 2015, but this is far and away shaping up to be our best sales year to date,” says Lawren Eckhardt, Cane Island’s director of marketing. “As always, our valued Realtor partners are a big part of this growth.”

Heading into Labor Day, Cane Island recorded 202 new home sales in 2020, up from 146 sales from the same time period a year ago. New homes in Cane Island range from the $280s to custom estates over $1 million.

“As families spend more time together, there’s a greater emphasis on enjoying all the bells and whistles of a new home, particularly with more professionals working remotely,” she adds.

Residents enjoy unlimited use of the community’s resort-style Cane Quarter featuring a yoga studio with on-demand classes, two-story fitness center, lap pool, lagoon-style family pool and cabanas, children’s water playground and central lawn.  Cane Quarter also is home to The Oaks Kitchen & Bar, open daily for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.     West Houston Realtor Wanda Baptista of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene – Memorial has an extra $5,000 in spending money thanks to selling three new homes in Katy’s Cane Island during the first four months of 2020.

    The cash bonus was awarded to Baptista as part of Cane Island’s campaign touting the “more” of the award-winning community of new homes.

    “I only sell in communities I would consider for myself,” says Baptista, who has logged more than 30 years in real estate.  “When it comes to Cane Island, my buyers all echo the same sentiment – they love its sense of community, security and tranquility.  Yes, you really get more here.”

    The Oaks Kitchen & Bar, the charming dining spot tucked away in the Katy community of Cane Island, has added a new Executive Chef and Pastry Chef while unveiling a new menu featuring entrees prepared over an open-flame oak wood grill.

    Now open daily, The Oaks Kitchen & Bar has named Katy native Kevin Callahan, previously with Austin’s critically acclaimed The Roaring Fork, as its new Executive Chef.  Callahan also has served as Executive Chef at Ritual in the Heights and as Sous Chef at Perla’s, one of Austin’s top upscale seafood experiences.

    Under Callahan’s direction, The Oaks Kitchen & Bar has unveiled new lunch and dinner menus featuring ranch-inspired American classics including several prepared on a top-of-the-line Aztec grill where an open flame from Texas-sourced hardwood oak heats up to a searing 1500 degrees.  Plus, Callahan says the grill’s heat-retaining bricks ensure a constant temperature across the entire grilling area.     

    “You get better consistency, better searing and just an all around better cooking experience,” he adds.

    The new menus also feature regional signature plates, shareable appetizers, fresh salads, burgers with Waygu and Black Angus blended beef, and house-made desserts prepared fresh daily. Most entrees are served with seasonal vegetables sourced from another local favorite – Katy’s Beckendorff Farms. 

    Entree newcomers include Potato Crusted Red Snapper with organic quinoa, sautéed oyster mushrooms and cauliflower, wood-grilled Rib-Eye with Yukon gold mashers and seasonal vegetables, Blackened Salmon, and Whole Branzino Fish, an Instagram-worthy, deboned wood-fired grilled European Sea Bass stuffed with lump crab and mushrooms. 

    Topping the list of new appetizer selections is a Gulf Coast Ceviche marinated in cumin vinaigrette, Chicken Lollipops, New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp, and a BLT Sliders Duo of pork belly, lettuce, tomato, red onions and creole mustard.

    The Oaks Kitchen & Bar also has expanded its dessert and pastry offerings, all prepared daily from scratch, by new Pastry Chef Juliet Comer.  House-made selections include a decadent Chocolate Cake, Spiced Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting, Bourbon Bread Pudding with bourbon glaze, Peach Cobbler topped with ice cream and caramel sauce, and a melt-in-your-mouth Crème Brule.

    Diners also enjoy a selection of martinis, handcrafted cocktails, sought-after wines and beers.

    Longtime restaurateur Adam Pettit remains as General Manager of The Oaks Kitchen & Bar.

    Just weeks after Cane Island opened the safe, fun experience of double-feature drive-in movies, our community of new homes is hosting another opportunity for cooped-up families to get out and have fun in a safe, responsible way.

    Cane Island will host its summertime Live Music at the Oaks as up-and-coming talents perform in the community’s Cane Quarter amenity village where families can enjoy live music sounds while delighting in cuisine from The Oaks Kitchen & Bar.

    Live Music at The Oaks kicks off Thursday, July 2 with Rock Agents followed by the Beatles cover band, Fab Five, on Friday, July 3.  Rock Agents returns on Thursday, July 16 followed by Hayden Baker on Saturday, July 18. All concert times are from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

    In the interests of everyone’s health and safety, reservations for indoor and outdoor table seating are required in order to ensure adequate social distancing.  To reserve seats, call The Oaks Kitchen & Bar at 281-574-4144.

    With a new location in The Estates at Cane Island, the community’s weekend drive-in movie theater is open to the public as it presents popular, family-friendly and PG-13-rated movies on a large, elevated screen.  Cars will be parked ten feet apart to allow for proper social distancing. Pedestrians and bicycles are not allowed.

    On Friday, enjoy Angry Birds 2 starting at 6 p.m. followed by Gemini Man at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Cane Island’s pop-up drive-in presents a triple feature: Dumbo at 2:30 p.m., 101 Dalmations at 5:30 p.m. and Jumanji: The Next Level at 7:45 p.m.  Sunday’s first movie, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu starts at 2 p.m. followed by Dark Waters at 4 p.m.

    Cane Island will host a pop-up drive-in movie weekend, March 27-29, with three straight days of old-fashioned double-feature fun presented of course in an acceptable, socially-distant manner.

    On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, relax in the comfort of your own car and enjoy a family-friendly movie on Cane Island’s large, elevated screen with a PG-13-rated movie presented shortly after.  Admission is free.  

    On Friday, enjoy The Lion King starting at 6 p.m. followed by Avengers Endgame at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Cane Island’s pop-up drive-in presents Toy Story 4 at 6 p.m. followed by Knives Out at 8 p.m.  Sunday’s first movie, Aladdin, starts at 2 p.m. followed by Fantastic Beasts at 4 p.m.

    Cane Island will host the return of Crafts and Crawfish presenting the best of springtime shopping finds from the Real Craftwives of Katy, heaping plates of a fresh crawfish, live music and children’s activities galore on Saturday, March 28 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    Admission is free for a full day of family fun featuring live music, beer, fresh crawfish by Tad’s Louisiana Cooking and the opportunity to browse among dozens of local vendors for hand-crafted jewelry, gift ideas, clothing and accessories.  Children also will enjoy bounce houses, face painter and other activities.  All children’s activities are free.  Fresh crawfish is available for purchase.

    Crafts and Crawfish will be held in Cane Island’s Cane Quarter amenity village, 2100 Cane Island Parkway. Free onsite parking is available. 

    Cane Island’s showcase model homes, each fully furnished and expertly decorated, also will be open throughout the day.

    To reach Cane Island, take the Cane Island Parkway exit off Interstate 10 minutes west of the Grand Parkway.  Head north on Cane Island Parkway one half mile to reach the community entrance.  Cane Quarter will be on the right past Cane Island’s signature Living Arches.

    A large gathering of classic cars, exotic high-performance sports cars, vintage roadsters and custom hot rods is coming to Cane Island in Katy as our master-planned community of new homes presents the Fourth Annual Cane Island Car Show on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 

    Open free to the public in the community’s Cane Quarter, 2100 Cane Island Parkway, the car show is ideal for everyone from classic car aficionados to those simply looking for a fun outing with the family.  Plus, every car is available for up close inspection with vintage collectors standing by to chat about everything from bumper to bumper.  As always, photos are encouraged.   

    When its time to take a break from the steel and wheels, families can enjoy face painters, bounce houses, rock wall, live music and food truck cuisine available for purchase.  Plus, visitors can cast their votes for Most Unique, Best Classic, Best Exotic and Best Overall with winners receiving $1,000 cash prizes.              

    While in Cane Island, families also can tour the community’s Cane Quarter amenity village and its showcase model homes, each fully furnished and expertly decorated.

    To reach the Cane Island Car Show, take the Cane Island Parkway exit off Interstate 10 minutes west of the Grand Parkway.  Head north on Cane Island Parkway and take the roadway directly into the community.

Residents can drive over to the location of the food vendors for curbside-to-go pickup and stay in their vehicle and would be greeted by a staff member from each food truck that would deliver their order straight to their car.
Visit delicious food trucks and help small businesses in our area to operate while still adhering to the social distancing guidelines.
