The Houston area is home to a number of quality master-planned communities and with so many to consider, knowing what to look for in an enclave of new homes can help you select one that’s best for your family for years to come.
Before you start looking at homes, take in the community’s arrival experience and drive its neighborhoods. Are there special features that create a unique arrival? Are esplanades and green spaces well landscaped? Do shrubs and plants at neighborhood entries appear healthy and well maintained?
Take stock of amenities for fitness, recreation and entertainment. In Cane Island, one of west Houston’s top-selling communities, residents enjoy unlimited use of a two-story, 24-hour fitness center, a tranquil yoga studio with hundreds of on-demand classes, lap pool, lagoon-style family pool and cabanas, children’s water playground and central lawn for movie nights, concerts and other events.
As for other onsite conveniences, Cane Island is one of the few Houston-area new home communities with an onsite full-service restaurant, The Oaks Kitchen & Bar.
A quality community should offer well-known homebuilders with ample, move-in ready homes and plans to suit any lifestyle. Plus, homesites should be wide enough to provide sufficient open space and the feel of a larger property. In Cane Island, for example, buyers can choose properties from 50 to 100-feet in width. The community also offers acreage properties in its exclusive custom home neighborhood, The Estates.
Finally, get a sense of the community’s lifestyle. Are there residents out on the walking and jogging paths? Are families out on the playgrounds? An active lifestyle community such as Cane Island also is staffed by a full-time, onsite Lifestyle Director who plans events to foster that camaraderie among neighbors.
If the master-planned community you’re considering checks these boxes, you’ve probably found the one that’s right for you.
To reach Cane Island, take the Cane Island Parkway exit off Interstate 10 minutes west of the Grand Parkway. Head north on Cane Island Parkway one half mile to reach the community entrance. Fourteen model homes are open daily.
